“A life without a supervisor is like a seed that never grows”: Students’ Experiences of Undergraduate Nursing Research Supervision

Background: Undergraduate research is an inquiry or investigation conducted by students who develop original intellectual creative contribution to the discipline. However, little known within Philippine context that explores undergraduate nursing experience and supervision.Purpose: This study illustrated students’ lived experiences of supervision using transcendental phenomenology.Methods: made use phenomenology. Thirty enrolled full-time in a course during academic year (AY) 2019-2020, AY 2020-2021 were purposively sampled. These completed their projects as required for supervised mentor. Each participant underwent in-depth one-on-one interview, which responses transcribed analyzed based on modified Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen method.Findings: From thirty-nine significant statements carefully reviewed clustered into meaning units, three themes emerged, namely (a) re-capturing tripartite challenges doing research, (b) re-cultivating quintessential requisites (c) re-envisioning future ahead. provided textural structural descriptions intuitively integrate essence being research.Conclusion: resonates with mutual exchange novel ideas dialogical encounter, collective learning, participatory-in-action where sciencing caring thinking imbued critical thinking, inquisitiveness, intuitiveness.
